OSCE Chairman Karel De Gucht calls solving frozen conflicts a priority for 2006


New OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Belgian Foreign Minister Karel De Gucht said solving frozen conflicts in former Soviet states and tackling organized crime were among the main priorities of the organization in the year ahead.

Addressing the OSCE Permanent Council, Karel De Gucht said he hoped the "positive developments" on the question of South Ossetia in Georgia, would serve as examples of progress for other regions including Moldova and the issue of Transnistria, where the resumption of negotiations under a new format was urgently needed.
