3 opposition deputies stripped of parliamentary immunity

The Moldovan parliament on 13 October lifted the parliamentary immunity of Serafim Urechean, Ion Ciontoloi, and Vasile Colta, deputies of the opposition Our Moldova Alliance (AMN). The move was supported by the Communist Party faction, while the opposition parliamentary groups boycotted the vote. AMN Deputy Chairman Veaceslav Untila described the decision as "a shameful vote that marks the beginning of the demolition of democracy in the country." The three lawmakers have been accused of abuse of office by the Prosecutor-General. In particular, Urechean is charged with inflicting damage of some $240,000 on the state while he was mayor of Chisinau.
