Police dispersed a rally of some 500 street vendors near the presidential office in Chisinau on 3 October. The rally was organized to protest a municipal ban on flea markets that took effect the same day. City authorities introduced the ban in an effort to move street vendors to city markets, but vendors claim the required fees of more than $500 per month are too high for them.
