President Vladimir Voronin said on 27 August that the Moldovan state has ceased "to be a disputable territory over which great powers stumbled". Speaking at an official ceremony to mark Independence Day in Chisinau, Voronin added that "the European integration, which is leading to the erosion of state borders, has become for Moldova a state-building factor, a unique resource allowing us to build our country according to European values". "All of us are witnessing this process today, as the unavoidable day of Moldova's unification draws closer." – concluded Voronin
