Moscow blames Moldovans for shooting incident in Vadul lui Voda


The Russian Foreign Ministry has said the shooting incident that occurred on 19 July in the security zone on the Dniester river created "a serious threat to security in the region" and was provoked by Moldovan citizens. The ministry explained that a Russian officer fired two bursts into the air after two Moldovans, accompanied by a U.S. citizen, attempted to take unsanctioned pictures of the Russian outpost in Vadul lui Voda."

Moldovan news agencies cited on 20 July Moldovan Minister for Reintegration Vasile Sova as saying: "the incident in Vadul lui Voda shows that it is necessary to urgently take measures to stabilize the situation. Separatists are trying to hinder, by a number of measures, the process of implementation of the Ukrainian settlement plan of the Transdniester conflict.
