TI: no EU accession sans accelerating enforcement of anticorruption legislation

In its country report for 2004 Transparency International stated that Romania needed to step up anticorruption measures in its bid to join the European Union in 2007. Welcoming Romania's last year moves to root out graft, the watchdog organization that monitors corruption around the world, stressed that Romania needed to speed up enforcement of anticorruption legislation. According to the report, Romania's corruption index for 2004 was 2.9 on a scale where 10 means graft-free.
