The government dismissed Police Chief Dumitru Sorescu and Interior Ministry State Secretary Toma Zaharia. Sorescu's and Zaharia's names figured on the "list of shame" published the previous day by associations representing 1989 revolutionaries.
As new police chief the cabinet appointed Dan Valentin Fatuloiu, head of the Bucharest organized-crime-fighting police department. Former police chief Anghel Andreescu was designated Interior Ministry State Secretary.
