NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe General James Jones' visit to Bucharest


After meeting with visiting NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe General James Jones, President Traian Basescu said on 12 January that "Romania wanted to take a major role in providing stability in the region". Basescu also said that Romania could be a strong element of balance in the Black Sea region.

NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe General James Jones met on 13 January with Defense Minister Teodor Atanasiu, Foreign Minister Mihai Razvan Ungureanu, and army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eugen Badalan. Due to heavy fog, Jones was compelled to cancel a tour of Romanian military bases near the Black Sea port of Constanta.
