OSCE Mission to Moldova urges Chisinau and Tiraspol to resume negociations

The OSCE Mission to Moldova urged the Moldovan government and the Transnistrian administration to return to the negotiation table. Mission Chairman William Hill said durind a news conference on Friday that no problems could be resolved outside the negotiation framework.

Asked about the August 27 declaration of President Vladimir Voronin that Chisinau would no longer negotiate with Tiraspol, the American diplomat said he would not comment on this subject untill he personally discussed the issue with the Moldovan leader.

Noting that no solution had been found to the conflict around the Latin-spelling schools in the region, though work in this regard continued, William Hill said the OSCE Mission expected the Tiraspol leadership to keep its promise to let all Latin-spelling schools continue the education process.

In comments on a possible participation of the United States, the European Union and Romania in the Transnistrian negotiations, the U.S. diplomat noted that any change in the negotiation format must be blessed by all sides currently involved in this process.
