Strong (and getting stronger) tendency of politically controlling public information

The Agency for Press Monitorization „Academia Caţavencu” has published its report on the freedom of the press in 2003. Mircea Toma, the director of the agency, mentioned as the principle conclusion of the report the consolidated tendency of politically controlling public information which entitles one to speak of a politically orchestrated pressure on the press.

The phenomenon with the most negative influence upon the freedom of expression, given its impact upon public opinion, is the way tv stations distort public life information. Toma added that relevant information regarding the decision and action quality of the politicians in power was absent from the tv newscasts which amounts to „a lie by omission”.
