The Moldovan authorities on December 12 declared personae non gratae two Romanian diplomats in Chişinău and asked them to leave the country in 24 hours.
Romanian Foreign Affairs Office condemned the Chişinău decision.

Romanian President Băsescu asked the Government not to reciprocate the Moldovan move.
On December 7, Moldovan President Voronin accused Romanian authorities of "permanent aggression" towards his country, stating that Bucharest had failed to recognize Moldova's statehood and had been undermining it by offering Romanian passports to Moldovan citizens.
