Romanian Government adopted on September 5 an ordinance aiming to simplify procedures for obtaining Romanian citizenship. A few days earlier, prime minister Tariceanu declared that former Justice Minister Macovei had kept postponing the elaboration of the law. Macovei responded that Tariceanu had kept refusing a cabinet debate on her draft law.
Moldovan prime minister Vasile Tarlev called the new Romanian law an adverse development. Tarlev appealed to his fellow citizens to stop applying for foreign citizenships.
