Traian Basescu calls Moldovan accusations "the latest orchestrated aggression towards Romania"

Romanian President Traian Basescu on August 21 threatened "tough" action against Moldova after Moldovan authorities claimed that an unnamed high-ranking official in Romania's embassy in Chisinau had been issuing visas for bribes. Basescu called the allegations "the latest orchestrated aggression towards Romania". Basescu said the accusations were groundless since visa applications were processed in Bucharest, not in the embassy in Chisinau.

Romanian Foreign Minister Adrian Cioroianu on August 21 demanded details of Moldova's accusations, dismissing Chisinau's version of events that it had informed Bucharest of irregularities as far back as late June.
