Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski on June 30 appointed former Romanian justice minister Monica Macovei, to advise him on the government's declared "zero-tolerance" policy against corruption. Macovei is seen as a key figure in Romania's efforts to ready itself for accession to the EU in January 2007, and is credited with driving through judicial reforms. Macovei, a former activist, served in the Romanian government between 2004 and 2007.
