Romanian Senate’s Judicial Commission rejects law amendment equating Communist dignitaries with Securitate collaborators


Romanian Senate’s Judicial Commission rejected on Wednesday an amendment to the law equating the intelligence service under the communist regime "Securitate" with a repressive political police. The amendment stipulated all Communist Party dignitaries should be automatically considered collaborators of the Securitate.

Initiated by Hungarian Senator Peter Eckstein Kovacs the amendment was rejected by the two opposition parties in the Parliament, the far-right Greater Romania Party and the Social Democratic Party.
