President Vladimir Voronin said on November 29 that Moldova would tighten quality-control standards on wine exports. "Only state-run laboratories will be checking quality and issuing certificates," Voronin added.
Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin had announced that Moscow would lift a ban on Moldovan wine imports. The two presidents met on November 28 on the sidelines of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit in Minsk. During the meeting Moldova agreed to support Russia's bid to join the World Trade Organization.
Russia banned the import of Moldovan wines in March, in a move regarded as a politically motivated retribution for Chisinau's pro-Western orientation.
