New Romanian prosecutor general vested in office


On Thursday, October 5 the new prosecutor general of Romania, Laura Codruta Kovesi was vested in office. Kovesi announced that she would reform the Public Ministry which was perceived today as a passive institution. The new prosecutor general pledged to introduce a new public relations policy and to organise press conferences regularly.

Present at the vesting ceremony, Minister of Justice, Monica Macovei asked the new prosecutor general to start reforming the Public Ministry as soon as possible. Macovei pointed out that the latest report of the European Commission mentioned the need to urgently reform the Public Ministry. On the other hand, Monica Macovei warned Laura Codruta Kovesi that she would meet with resistance to reform projects from within the Public Ministry.
