Moldovan police officers released from Tiraspol custody


Separatist authorities in Tiraspol released two Moldovan policemen on June 24. Stefan Mangar and Constantin Condrea had been arrested in Tiraspol on June 14 and were accused of planning to abduct an unnamed personality who opposed President Voronin. No explanation was offered for the release.

On June 21 a court in Transdniester had extended the detention of the two Moldovan policemen by 30 days. Three other policemen arrested on the same day with Mangar si Condrea were released on June 19.

On June 16, Moldova's Foreign Ministry had called on the international community "to condemn Tiraspol's actions and demand the release of the Moldovan policemen."
