Romanian FM Ungureanu: Moldovans will get free entry visas until 2009

Romanian Foreign Minister Mihai Răzvan Ungureanu announced that Romanian authorities would step up the procedure for acquiring the Romanian citizenship. In an interview with RFE, Ungureanu said that counter to wide-spread rumours only some 90 thousand Moldovans had obtained Romanian passports in the last 15 years. Reminding the EU visa requirements, Ungureanu said that after acceding to the Union in January 2007 Bucharest intended not to ask money for the visas applied for by Moldovans. Things will change, he added, when Romania joins the Schengen space in 2009.
