Moldova's parliament on March 10 passed a resolution criticizing authorities in Transdniester for escalating tensions in response to the new customs regulations applied at the Ukrainian border. The resolution expressed "deep concern over the dangerous developments in Transdniester" and censured Tiraspol's separatist policy aimed at "frustrating the constructive efforts by Chisinau, Ukraine, the EU, and the United States to legalize Transdniestrian business."
Ukraine and Moldova instituted new customs rules on March 3 that require goods leaving the country via Transdniester to clear Moldovan customs. Chisinau, Kyiv and Bruxelles say the move is aimed at stopping ilegal commercial activities. Transdniester officials call it an economic blockade.
