Moldova seeks to have Russian import ban lifted

On 15 August, a Moldovan delegation went to Moscow to negotiate the lifting of a ban on Moldovan meat and agricultural imports to Russia. Moscow banned imports of Moldovan fruits and vegetables in mid-May, after banning meat import in April. Russia is Moldova's largest trade partner and accounts for 35.2 percent of Moldovan exports and 11.8 percent of imports, according to official Moldovan sources. In 2004, Moldova exported 180,000 tons of fruits and 9,600 tons of vegetables, 70 percent of which were shipped to the Russian Federation.
