At the 10 July mayoral election in Chisinau less than 27 percent of eligible voters came to the polls. Since at least one-third of registered voters are required to take part in a mayoral election, the ballot has been declared invalid. Zinaida Grechanaya of the Communist Party received 50.5 percent of the vote. She was followed by former Prime Minister and Our Moldova Alliance co-Chairman Dumitru Braghis (20.6 percent), who ran as an independent candidate. A repeat election will be held on 24 July.
