Russia's natural-gas monopolist society Gazprom is weighing charging Moldova market prices comparable to those it charges western European customers, news agencies reported on 30 March, citing Gazprom Deputy Chairman Aleksandr Ryazanov.
Moldova currently owes Gazprom $660 million for deliveries of natural gas, a figure that includes $542 million owed by the separatist Transdniester region. The move came as Russia is considering economic sanctions against Moldova for what Moscow calls unfriendly policies.
