In a complaint filed with President Traian Basescu's office, Romanian Prosecutor-General Ilie Botos accused Justice Minister Monica Macovei of meddling in the work of the Prosecutor's Office. Macovei denied the charges. Macovei had ordered a legal investigation against two prosecutors involved in a probe into the drugs case of the son of the wealthy and influential businessman Ion Tiriac. Macovei's move was triggered by reports that evidence had been removed from the files following political pressure from the previous government.
