The German parliament adopted on May 6 a motion affirming its support for the democratization and reintegration of Moldova. The motion initiated by Claudia Nolte of the Christian Democratic Union calls for an EU-led programme of economic and social rebuilding of a reunited Moldova.
The Bundestag also urges the federal government to explore, together with partners in the EU and OSCE, possibilities of taking part in the Transnistrian settlement process. The legislators encourage the German cabinet to systematically address the Transnistria issue in talks with Russia and Ukraine.
The motion also underlines the important role which the Moldovan government has to play in this process, by respecting the obligations assumed as a member of the OSCE and Council of Europe regarding democratization and the rule of law.
