The Romanian Press Club on press freedom limitations

The Romanian Press Club published a declaration on press freedom limitation cases in Romania. The declaration released in advance of World Press Freedom Day mentions the discovery of a journalist’s body who disappeared months ago and died under mysterious circumstances, the hospitalization of journalists who had been given a dressing down in different cities in broad daylight or even in their homes, physical attacks suffered by journalists on the precincts or in the neighbourhood of state institutions, abusive language used by deputies against journalists.

The Romanian Press Club states that expressing threats against journalists or press institutions has become a common place in public discourse, while the number of penal and civil sentences against journalists is alarmingly high.
