Theodor Stolojan, leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL), declared that some liberals had been within an ace to give up candidating after having been threated by the authorities. Speaking in Piatra Neamt, Stolojan explained that the most common threat took the form of blackmailing: in case of candidacy one’s relatives were to lose their jobs with state institutions.
